These diaries are so precious! My grgr grandmother left one, it almost was thrown out by an unconcearned relative, but the daughter saved it. What she saved was only half of the diary, and out of the blue, another relative sent her the other half! I…
What is your interest in Clann Muir?
Im intersted in finding out my mothers roots . Her maiden name is Muir and we know it is scottish connected through her father .
Her father was called Stephen Muir who was a postman (my grandfather ). Goin back further it is discovered that my great grandfather was also called Stephen Muir and was a carpenter in the 1940s in my home town (south shields ). We know that my great grandfather gave a Diary to my grandfather dated 1899-1900, with reference to a ` stephen muir , a carpenter and a journeyman`.
My mother passed this diary down to me which i have intact. Its abit tattered and torn , but is readable in certain sections. Upon further scrutiny we believe he was a sailour on a ship for a short period of time , but carpentry was his main trade.
My mother knows there is a connection to south west Scotland ( near Dumfries we think ) because her father told her of his scottish roots . My mother went to dumfries for a visit many years ago, and seen a painting of a late `Muir ` from early 1900s, who looked a spitting double of her Muir Line , she was amazed but had no link or connection to it.
This ` diary i have in my possession from 1899-1900 has a reference to a `Shore street`. I googled this street followed by scotland and funny enough it came up in Dumfries!
Drummore, Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway.
we think we may have long lost relatives in this area but again have no reference but our Great grand father .Obviosly we cant be sure until we find a link. We think the `great grandfather ` traveled south into England and braught the Muir line here to south shields in `Northern england `way back in time. His scottish family line ` may still be in the south west of scotland ,to this day.

Aye Simon, The diaries give us the "feel" of their lives we would not know otherwise. They took care to leave those behind for us to know them. Dont be surprised if your notes and drawings and passages mean something else as well, they seemed to leave us clues in the form of hidden meanings. They had to hide their beliefs and ways of life from the authorites that had taken over control of them, and I love that they broke through the chains to tell about it. My diary had been added on to by the kids who had access to it in 1902, two years after Mercy had died and made a drawing of stick figures of a guy roping chickens. It was very cute. Have a good one, we'll chat again soon,
Karen

Good that you checked out Michael Hedges. He's been one of our faves. Also, have you ever heard of Shadowfax (not the mythical horse, but the musical group)? They're no longer together, but also very good (IMHO).
Randy
I look forward to hearing more from you and about your MUIRs.
BTW (By The Way), I did look at your page with the movies/music on 'em. My fam really seems to enjoy jazz quite a bit. If you haven't heard 'em before, you might like to check out Michael Hedges (unfortunately he died several yrs. ago in a 'cycle accident) and Bella Fleck.
Welcome Clann Brother....wow the line of decent definitly makes you a Clann Muir member.....jump in brother. have a good time doing geneology, blogs, forums and such.

My name is Randy Muir. I'm the "main guy" who tries to help folks with their family genealogy on Clann Muir. I'm not a great historian by any means, but over many, many years I have built up quite a large database on all MUIRs that folks have shared with me and that I have also personally put in a lot of work on. I will be glad to try to assist you in your search. One thing that could be most useful is if you share what you do know on your MUIRs ... all of the "particulars" that you know. Full names of husband & wife (and children), as well as the vital stats (when and where folks were born, married, and died). That will do good for starters.
Also, a word of caution, you may not want to share vital info on folks that are still living on a public board, although that is your choice. If you want, you can write me privately at my e-mail (tree9616@aol.com). Once you start getting back further in time on this line, then it would probably be fine to post info publicly, since most of the info would already be in "public records" somewhere anyhow. Also, more folks would be willing to assist, if they have links of their own for you.
I do try my best to document the sources of my info and try to get folks in touch with each other, if I find some working on the same line.
Welcome to Clann Muir Online.
I sent your info. to our Clann genealogist, and as soon as he can he will contact you. Add your photos, videos, blog, and just have fun.
I hope you find all you seek here. The folks are wonderful as well.
