Top of the day to you also, remember Mor is not a surname but kind of a sign of rank. Sure as the cool rain falls from the grays skies the english named people Moore(spelling) They also forbid the using of Mc and O. They did this to confuse the chil…

Are all members of the surname Mor, in all it's variant spellings, of the same core bloodline? Mor just means big(senior) opposite beare or little(junior). The leading line of a family would have Mor attached to it Example O'Sullivan Mor is to O'Sul…

Greetings, I am interested in Moore , Muir etc. DNA studies , but I am confused as to which one I should choose. You were recommended by one of our clannsmen. I am seeking a link to John Muir the Naturalist and wondered if there is a dna sample in a study from his family?

Well Seamus,
Thank-you so much for the very interesting response!! I learned alittle their about the Irish side I wasn't aware of. There is a "Wild Geese" web site thats talks about many different things but I've never read about the flight of the Earls.( looks like I will now!) LOL! I also once read about Moirs or the O'mores going to Spain to fight with Napoleaon only to "kill English". ( Apparently, when they showed up at the French camp they were afforded uniforms, pay and food. Their reply was " We don't care about that, we want to kill English." They never went on any other campaigns. No interest outside of the English. I read that so long ago I can't remember if was the Scot or the Irish side of the family. (something else I'll have to locate!) As far as the severed heads on the Coats of Arms, if you go to the Clann world wide site, look under the "Stepping Stones" area of the first page, you see Moir Geneology section and in there is a book that shows the Coats of Arms I'm talking about and it has the story about how they ended up on the shield. I found that book after posting my question. I had never seen the entire book before. I'm going to buy lots of ink and paper and copy the whole thing! that will be a job!!!
Thanks again Seamus, would love to meet you someday!!

Greetings brother Seamus!

It's been dogs' years since we've seen each other. I'll never forget the first time we met - Myrtle Creek, Oregon, Douglas County Games. I was new to the whole clan thing - the Muirs hadn't been reinstated back then - I was wearing my O'More coat of arms t-shirt and you came up to me and engaged me in conversation. It was the first time that I felt like I belonged.

Regards,

MacBear
