That is uncanny. My Granny’s Grandfather was also a William Muir (William Paterson Muir) born in Monkton, Ayrshire in 1823 but according to the 1841 census at age 18, William was living at the family property “Springbank” in the rural parish of Tarbolton.
The family moved to Glasgow some time before 1851 and resided at 140 West Campbell St. It was he who with several of his brothers came here in 1853.
You can see a picture of him on my Clann Muir Page.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if we were related!

Victor
Welcome to the site from me in Melbourne, Australia.
My Dad’s mum was a Muir. I am descended from a John Muir who was born in Ayrshire about 1740. Our family moved to Glasgow by 1851 and came here in 1853.
Hope you enjoy the site.

Victor
May I enlist you to do a deed for the Clann Muir?
August Muir Flohr, and John Moore Sr. are so far the 2 going over for the Gathering 2009.
We have a tent there for Clann Muir, and with the economy as it is worldwide, the less cost the better for trip expenses.
Is there somewhere, hidden from the public eye..(smiles) lodging for them that is not going to cost US $150.00 per night? 3 days each it really adds up, then there is food and travel back and forth to the grounds to man the tent.
Second, would you be willing to help out with the tent?
6am to near 8pm each day is a long haul and having no rest period daily will be exhausting for them.
There is the Clann parade, and other Clann Muir representations that they need to attend there but with no tent backup, it is going ot be a problem for them,
So, I am requesting your assistance if possible to rally home Muirs to join and help. We also would be joyous to have more than 2 Clann Muir members to march together in the Clann parade to the castle...and help carry the Clann Muir banner.
Is this possible?
